If it's for their exclusive use, shouldn't they pay taxes on that portion of the street and be responsible for its maintenance costs? Or should they be allowed to exclude everyone else from a piece of property maintained by the city that they don't even pay taxes on? Ultimately, someone with a driveway is claiming the entry/egress as their private property even though it's public land that they aren't paying taxes on. I think one could argue that they should also pay taxes on the part of public property they're claiming as their private property - the entry/egress from their driveway. Someone with no driveway and more building on the same amount of land will pay a lot more in property taxes. The property value might increase because of the off-street parking, but that's the case for any property improvement. Property taxes aren't based on the square footage of the property. The owners pay a thing called taxes, and it's on the sq footage of your property, which may include a parking spot or two yeah, I was going to fucking wait for him. I have personally been blocked in a bunch of times, and the best was 3 weeks ago where I was getting into my car to leave for work and the guy who owned the truck overhanging my driveway by about 3 feet shouted down at me from his ladder against the neighbors wall (which has plenty of available parking), "I need five more minutes". They could have had a fight with their SO, a shitty day at work, dinged down at the MB and this was the last straw.Īs to /Augwich and their " I would argue that people who have driveways should have to pay for a Somerville parking fee because functionally it's the same thing anyway." the owners pay a thing called taxes, and it's on the sq footage of your property, which may include a parking spot or two. ![]() In your case, your driveway owner may have been a tad irritated getting into their driveway on Thursday evening, or out on Friday morning, but then when your car hasn't moved 24 hours later, that may have pushed them over the edge. OK, I read the thread and some people don't seem to get the idea of rules, and parking etc. Guess I'm just throwing this out there as a warning for other dumbasses like me, this is apparently something they ticket for now so stay away from those driveways. The fact that my car was left there for 2 days and was not towed shows that it clearly wasn't an issue, cars were coming and going from the driveway just fine as I walked down the block this morning. I have even asked the people in the house "hey, too close?" and received a "no, you're good" many times. Have been parking like this for 7 years with no issue. Street parking is tough and people try to make as much room as possible for each other. But this is the way EVERYONE has ALWAYS parked around here. Now, my car was definitely only about 14 inches away. To my surprise, I see it says it's $100 instead of the usual $50, and it's for parking within 2 feet of a driveway. ![]() What possibly could it be?! It's been forever since the last time I forgot about street sweeping, and I know I parked there on Thursday. ![]() I walked to my car this morning and I flipped out seeing the orange paper halfway down the block.
